Annual Events

Whether your focus is on good food and wine, music, chocolate, coffee, heritage or culture, Maitland offers everything from small community gatherings to large scale festivals.

Central Maitland hosts some of the city’s largest and most popular annual events including Maitland Taste Festival and Steamfest in Autumn, Aroma Chocolate and Coffee Festival in Winter and Riverlights Multicultural Festival and Bitter & Twisted Boutique Beer Festival in Spring.

Explore the delights of food and produce, from garden to the plate at this annual event. See local and interstate experts in the fields of cooking, edible gardening and biodiversity across two stages, whilst sampling some of the best street food and local wine the Hunter has to offer.

A celebration of Maitland’s strong steam and industrial heritage, Hunter Valley Steamfest has cemented itself as Australia’s premier festival of steam, and is celebrating 35 years in 2021. Featuring a diverse and exciting rail journeys program, vintage machinery, Show ‘n’ Shine, kids activities and live entertainment, Steamfest offers something for the whole family.

The warm aroma of freshly ground coffee beans, rich melted chocolate and decadent dishes descend on Maitland during this snug August festival. Featuring expert chocolatiers, talented baristas and the best of the region’s winemakers it is the perfect way to ward off the winter chill.

This annual event celebrates Maitland’s cultural diversity through food, music, dance and interactive experience. See The Levee Central Maitland transform into a global village where visitors can see, taste, feel and experience different cultures. This event really shines at night, with the popular festival parade and magical lantern flotilla featured on the Hunter River.

Held on the first weekend of November each year within the walls of Maitland Gaol, this event celebrates beer, music and food and is a highlight on any beer aficionado’s calendar. In 2021, we will be celebrating 15 twisted years with over 80 craft beers, the best line up of bands, food from across the globe, home brew masterclasses plus a few twisted surprises.
